P-51D Mustang
P-51D Mustang
Our P-51D Mustang TransportTags were carefully created from spare panels and parts left over after a prior complete restoration of S/N: 45-11571. This aircraft was accepted by the USAAF in early 1945, and more likely than not was deployed during World War II. While we couldn’t track down recorded documentation of its time spent in service during World War II, we learned that it went on to have a career in the New Hampshire Air National Guard.

After completing its service there, it was decommissioned and sold into private ownership where it demonstrated its more than capable performance abilities in the 1973 Reno Air Races.
These tags have some unbelievable structure to them, which is unique to any other P-51 Mustang tags that have been on the market and made available to collectors. Moving parts, bolts and frame lines can be seen on many of the tags that we have created. We have also paired these tags with some beautiful card art.

Vehicle History
Vehicle History
The P-51D Mustang is an iconic American fighter aircraft that played a pivotal role during World War II. Developed by North American Aviation, the Mustang was initially designed as a fighter-bomber, but it quickly gained recognition for its exceptional performance in air-to-air combat. The P-51D variant, which emerged in 1944, featured a distinctive bubble canopy that improved pilot visibility - and an upgraded engine, the Packard V-1650, which provided a top speed of around 440 miles per hour. This aircraft was equipped with six .50 caliber machine guns, making it a formidable opponent against enemy fighters. Its long-range capabilities allowed it to escort bombers deep into enemy territory, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of Allied bombing campaigns.
The P-51D Mustang's sleek design and powerful performance made it a favorite among pilots and a vital asset in the Allied victory. Its combination of speed, agility, and firepower earned it numerous accolades and the respect of adversaries. Beyond its military significance, the Mustang has left a lasting legacy in aviation history, often celebrated in airshows and by aviation enthusiasts. Of additional note is that the P-51 Mustang's legendary performance and sleek design also inspired the creation of the Ford Mustang, introduced in 1964 and paying homage to the aircraft.
The aircraft's role in securing air superiority, particularly during key battles such as the bombing of Germany, solidified its status as one of the most successful and celebrated fighters of its time. Today, the P-51D Mustang is revered not only for its engineering excellence but also for its contributions to the Allied efforts during one of the world’s most significant conflicts.
TransportTags is pleased to be able to present to you a piece of this incredible aviation history - and as with all of our tags, a portion of the proceeds will be used to save and restore other historical aircraft in our collection.
