F/A-18 Super Hornet

The F/A-18F Super Hornet is the modern mainstay of U.S. naval aviation—a twin-engine, carrier-based multirole fighter that delivers extended range, increased payload, and devastating precision strike capability.

These tags are crafted from an authentic early-production SUU-80 external pylon, interior green structure, as well as avionics panels from Super Hornets that can be used in both E and F models. Our SUU-80 pylon was used during the initial testing and development of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet program. These pylons were designed exclusively for the Super Hornet and had a towed-out cant to the pylon to avoid ordnance drops bouncing back up and hitting the plane. Our SUU-80 pylon was swapped between early E and F model airframes, giving it a rich, shared history across both variants. To fully honor that story, we’ve created matching E and F product cards, along with a special vector design that represents its complete legacy.

Super Hornet material is exceptionally rare to find. Despite the aircraft being widely used by the U.S. Navy, suitable pieces for tags have been incredibly difficult to source. We have been searching for years and only recently located this special material—placing it right up there with some of the most exotic aircraft we’ve ever been able to offer. Every detail tells a story of American engineering, carrier operations, and combat-proven excellence.

This is not just metal—it’s a tangible piece of history from an aircraft that still protects our skies and projects American power from the decks of our aircraft carriers. As the first Super Hornet tag ever released, it holds a special place in our collection and will be cherished by anyone who understands its significance.

Vehicle History

The F/A-18F Super Hornet is a carrier-based, twin-engine, multirole fighter aircraft currently in service with the United States Navy and Australia. Developed by Boeing (following the acquisition of McDonnell Douglas), it is an enlarged and significantly upgraded derivative of the original F/A-18 Hornet.

First flown in 1995 and entering fleet service in 2001, the Super Hornet was designed to replace the F-14 Tomcat and complement the earlier “Legacy” Hornet. With a top speed of Mach 1.8, a combat ceiling over 50,000 feet, and the ability to carry a wide array of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons on its 11 hardpoints, the F/A-18F excels in air superiority, fighter escort, suppression of enemy air defenses, and precision strike missions. Its advanced avionics, reduced radar signature, and exceptional survivability have made it the workhorse of U.S. Navy carrier air wings for over two decades.

Boeing continues to produce and upgrade the Super Hornet, ensuring it remains relevant well into the future alongside the F-35 Lightning II.
